ABINGDON, VA: Finally got photos back from our opening night...as you can tell I don't own a digital camera, so I have to drop the film off at either Rite Aid or the local Kroger store.

ABINGDON, VA: We were visited last night (8/30) by Larry Campbell & his wife Teresa Williams
after our show on Tuesday, & Rick Rose took us all out to Charlie's in Bristol after the show. Teresa played Sara Carter in Barter's production of Keep On The Sunnyside
& just finished up a production of "Always...Patsy Cline" at the Alabama Shakespere Festival...Larry was, until recently, a member of Bob Dylan's Never Ending Tour band , is currently playing with Levon Helm among others (including Danny & MO's band, Reckon So).

ABINGDON, VA: I forgot to mention, August 27th would have been
Carter Stanley's 80th birthday. We should have had the premiere on that night, but nobody thought of it, including me. Anyway...we got through opening night, but they sat Ralph & Jimmie right in front. I had to walk right by him while I was doing the preacher, & I was thinking, "Lord, don't let me stomp on him with my big ol' feet!" (Check this out for an actor's POV,) Ralph was in the front row, second from the right near the aisle. Looks like they took some seats on the side out for this particular set in the online diagram for whatever production it was, but we've got all the seats in there for our show.

ABINGDON, VA: Yes, I do get them from time to time. First thing I do is cook up a mess of food to eat on the rest of the week, which is going to be especially useful when we ramp up to doing two shows a day in September. Last night after our matinee I made up a pot of Thai Ginger Coconut soup, another pot of Hoppin' John (blackeyed peas, pork side meat, chopped sautÈed greens, peppers, onions, garlic & a dollop of molasses), pasta sauce, several catfish filets, & green beans. Then I spent the next several hours playing mandolin while I watched the digitally remastered reissue of Patton on DVD. Multi-tasking, NYC style.

| Stanley Brothers play at Barter Theater |
03:33pm, 16 Aug 2005
ABINGDON, VA: We're at the end of the "mini-production" of "Man of Constant Sorrow: The Story of the Stanley Brothers," down here at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon, VA...we did 2 weeks of performances. "Mini-production" means they're fudging a little bit on the set, lighting, some costumes, stuff like that. But we're still mostly in full costume, have to know all the cues, we have to be off book, and play all the music.
